There was Hip-Hop music before the Summer of 1982 and then after…“Planet Rock” completely changed the sonic landscape of the music and it’s influence held sway for a number of years in the early to mid 80’s. This is what it means to be truly creative: You take several influences and meld them together to form something completely original and unique. When you make music, a majority of your focus should be between the points of original and unique.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
