Today we continue our stroll through the Stax catalog with a track from the master showman himself Rufus Thomas. Rufus Thomas was very adept at mining the undeniable synergy between music and dance. This wasn’t just a 20th century phenomenon, Rufus was harkening back through the centuries, where certain music called for a certain dance. When you think about it there’s really not much difference between the Waltz, Walking the Dog and The Wobble.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
