As if the universe planned it… after yesterday’s mini-tribute to Isaac Hayes this great new music from Rhonda Thomas hits the inbox. A touching tribute to her mentor, Rhonda explains the story behind the recording:
“Wow! Where do I start? I was already familiar with this song coming up in the soul era. My dad loved Isaac Hayes. So when I got the opportunity to sing background for him, my friend and bass player Kurt Mitchell suggested that I ask Isaac to sing the song with him as a duet. The rest is history. I had the opportunity to sing with Isaac Hayes for 11 years and was a featured vocalist on the song with him. I knew I wanted his presence on my CD, so what better way to pay homage to him. I wanted this song to honor Isaac’s original music but I wanted to update it just a little. I love the direction we went with this. My favorite line is “I do my thang I work my thang-thang sing my thang-thang. Thank you Isaac ‘cause you helped me do my thang-thang”. Peaceful Blessings to You Isaac!!”
