As the old adage states hindsight is 20/20 and I don’t think anyone was even considering the tragic events that were just around the corner but for some reason this press conference just happened to be on my mind today. I remember watching it live and my reaction to the crowd assembled, I was struck by the sight of all these folks caught up in the mania that is Michael. Tears, screams, clapping, jumping and cheering: men, women, children, old and young tossing these flowers to this incredible artist while he was still with us. Somehow my mind, body and spirit was transported from 2009 to 1983 and the affirmation was as clear then as it is now: Michael Jackson is that dude, period.
Sometimes a little thought just pops into your head and you have to share.

A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
