This week we are taking a little time out to pay homage to the Greatest Entertainer of All Time as we near the anniversary of his sudden passing last year. Today, we take a listen to one of his first musical compositions once he was able to explore this side of his creativity after leaving Motown. Michael could not have had any better mentors for his first foray into writing than the guidance he received from powerhouse songwriting duo of Gamble and Huff.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
