Tamela Mann Talks Overcomer, Tyler Perry and Kirk Franklin
Tamela Mann, Grammy and NAACP Award winning actress, singer and now songwriter and producer is back with a new album called Overcomer. The project was executive produced by Mann and her husband David. Featured guests artists include Wyclef Jean, Todd Dulaney and Travis Greene.
In addition to adding the title producer, Mann is a songwriter on this project. About involving herself with the songwriting on Overcomer Mann said, “I poured my experiences into the lyrics, putting my heart and soul into the words on this album. It’s me looking at my life and the things I was dealing with, trying to learn from those things, and doing what I can to overcome them.”
Along with talking about the songs on Overcomer, Mann explained the message of mental wellness in the black and Christian community she conveys through the music video for “Help Me”. Also, she spoke about physical wellness in the community, her weight-loss journey and what she’s done to make changes over the past few years.
Moreover, Mann’s long-time friend and career mentor Kirk Franklin worked on this album just as he has on her previous albums. During our conversation she became emotional as she expressed gratitude for the encouragement Franklin gives her along with Tyler Perry and her husband David. Mann said if she could have her own Mt. Rushmore, then it would include the faces of Franklin, Perry and David Mann.
