Readers here should know how I feel about my Jazzy (of course Jazmine Sullivan doesn’t know that I call her that but nevertheless…). You need not only this fire in your life but the entire project. Sometimes I can feel some type of way about tributes. Sometimes tributes leave a lot to be desired, other times tributes have zero correlation to the honoree. That’s definitely not what’s at play here. I believe this captures the essence of Nina Simone in a very 2015 way.

Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
