This weekend poet and performer Saul Williams begins his North American Tour in support of Volcanic Sunlight, his fourth full-length release.

With a resume as impressive as his stage presence, Williams has written four books of poetry (S/HE, Said the Shotgun to the Head, The Dead Emcee Scrolls, and NGH WHT; recorded three LPs since his breakout 2001 debut Amethyst Rock Star (Saul Williams, 2004; The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust, 2008; and Volcanic Sunlight, 2011). He starred in the independent feature SLAM that garnered the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and the Camera D’Orr at Cannes in 1998.

Williams is also a Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion at the famed Nuyorican Poets Café on the Lower East Side in New York City. He received his BA in Philosophy and Drama at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, and a MFA in Acting from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. I’ve seen him live on stage twice and each time he’s blown me away. So I’ll definitely be hitting up one of these shows, and you should too!
