I have to confess this song was a bit of a challenge to me because typically it doesn’t fit within my familiar territory of R&B and soul. I had to reach outside my comfort zone to connect with something different and I’m glad I did. I wouldn’t call myself an authority on this genre of music but I can say that I could appreciate this musical piece, “If Wishes Were Gold” from Sankofa featuring Allison Russell. It’s the simplicity of the song that brings a sense of ease. The elements of the guitar, harmonica, and the purity of Allison’s vocals bring an imagery of sunset summers on the porch with the occasional sip of sweet tea. I could even see this song as the cute and comfy background for the Cuties California Clementines. 😉
