Season 3 “Sunday Best” winner Le’Andria Johnson recently released her debut cd, “The Awakening of Le’Andria Johnson”.   Even if you are not a regular viewer of “Sunday Best”, you probably have heard Le’Andria’s incredible story being homeless while auditioning for the talent competition.  The ep opens with the “Sunday Best Medley 1” in which Le’Andria offers an upbeat cover of “God’s Trying to Tell You Something” and a heartfelt cover of Commissioned’s “Running Back to You”.    On “Cast the First Stone” audiences get a quiet storm lesson on judgement.  “Make Him Like You” takes a jazzy, finger snapping turn in which she asks the Lord to mirror her future mate after the Lord’s image.  Fans get a dose of old school doo wop on “New Reasons”.  The soul filled cut “Jesus” follows.  “Struggle Not” provides an inspirational message of hope that could easily double as Le’Andria’s testimony.  “Awakening” closes with the “Sunday Best Medley 2”, which includes Myron Butler and Levi’s hit “Set Me Free”.

I must admit that this cd surprised me.  I expected a lot of old school church belting (which is not a bad thing), but instead I received a cd that is very contemporary and covers a myriad of musical styles.  There is either an r&b or jazz undertone to many of the tracks.  The music places you in the mindset of Kim Burrell or Kelly Price’s gospel releases.  Based on the success of both of those ladies, that is not bad company to be in.  I recommend that you add “Awakening” to your music collection.  You can find out the most recent news on Le’Andria at her website.  “Awakening” is available for purchase at both ITunes and Amazon.com.
