#Growns ‘Tis The Season! It’s that time of year and oh what a year it’s been(and well still is….). BJP & The Moneymakers are seeking to bring the gift of peace and joy through music with their cover of the Thad Jones classic “A Child Is Born”. Typically around this time of year(and all throughout the year honestly) you might find BJ Pendleton anywhere in the world as he mans the sound desk and other production duties for clients such as Robert Glasper, Gregory Porter and Nile Rodgers of Chic but we all know what 2020 has wrought to the live performance world.
Never one to rest, BJP decided to use this downtime from the road to re-connect with his first love and step back on to the virtual stage and behind the microphone. Enlisting the assistance of stalwart Charlottesville, VA based musicians Elise Underwood on upright bass, Robinson Hubbard on drums and our very own music editor Ivan Orr on Fender Rhodes, BJP is embarking on a mission to bring the level of excellence and professionalism he’s encountered the world over back to his homebase.
But more than that, this coming together to perform this exquisitely beautiful lullaby from master musician/arranger Thad Jones is what the season is really all about. It’s about sharing your gifts, your time, your presence especially when we’re not able to do much or any of that in-person this year. Stay safe, stay warm, and if you have folks that can be with you, stay close to them and listen to this story of a child being born. It truly is the story of a little miracle that happens everyday, precious and sacred and something that we should never take for granted.
