You may have noticed a new button on our blog (if you haven’t it’s in the top left-hand corner) announcing our new community on Ning.com. We’re calling it the alpha launch, which is really just a fancy way of saying this isn’t the “real” site but a community with some of the features we’ll be bringing to you in the spring.  We want to get to know you, strike up some discussions, and get your input as we move forward.

We’d love for you to go grownfolksmusic.ning.com, sign up for the community and get in on the fun! We recommend filling out your profile (we want to know the good stuff — like your most memorable GFM concert experience) and uploading a profile photo so we can get to know you.

Some things we’d like to point out on the Ning community that we’ll be building on in the full site:

  • Music uploads and customizeable playlists
  • Great discussions
  • Badges and widgets
  • Tributes to the visionaries who have passed
  • Video & photo slideshows
  • Member blogs, where you can be a contributor to GFM (we want to hear your stories)

Of course, that’s not everything . . . go sign up and check it out for yourself (hint hint).

I thought I’d use this announcement as a way to give a little update on how things are going with the upcoming GrownFolksMusic.com Beta Launch in the spring.   This blog and now the new community site are two of the ways we want to get some discussions flowing around this music we love before we unveil the the site itself.

We’ve been working hard with developers, talking to industry folk, artists, and mostly, people who just love this music and world, to make a site and community that makes it fun and easy for you to get involved. Musicians will be able to not just upload their music and create profiles but engage with their fans on a more personal, deeper level that’s currently available on social networking sites.

We’ve recently added detailed information about the site for artists, fans, and businesses — and keep an eye out on this blog for more updates.  Do you have suggestions or feedback?  We want to hear from you!  Give us a shout at contact@grownfolksmusic.com.

Also, if you’re a college student, we have internship opportunities.

In the mean time, if you have anything to contribute to the blog, we’ve also just added a new Contribute section where you can submit posts for the GFM blog . . . and we highly encourage it!  Don’t want to give away all our secrets, but contributors are gonna be a big part of the new GFM 🙂
