Slowly but surely I’ve been trying to heed my own advice I wrestle constantly with trying to maintain a healthy appreciation for the past and an openness for the now. The appeal for me in this track is definitely its uniqueness not only in the production by Willie Green but also in the delivery by Open Mike Eagle. That’s what entertains me: when someone can present something that is not only different but different and done well. If there is nothing to embrace in the now, we run the risk of a future devoid of nostalgia. Everything that was, wasn’t great and everything that is isn’t less than.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
