About “Mantra”:

Outrageous musical collective THE BIG OL’ NASTY GETDOWN is set to release their latest single “Mantra” on May 10th. With a deep open pocket, funky dance groove and neo-soul vibe, “Mantra” features multi-Grammy winning vocalists Kendra Foster (Parliament-Funkadelic/D’Angelo’s Vanguard) and Speech (Arrested Development).

These beautifully produced vocals blend perfectly alongside Norwood Fisher (Fishbone), Tori Ruffin (The Time/Freak Juice), Jeffery Suttles (The Sexual Chocolate Band), Bobby Easton (Delta Nove)Mary FrancesDerrick Johnson (Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band), Greg Hollowell (Asheville Horns), Greg Thomas (Parliament Funkadelic)Ben Hovey and Debrissa McKinney (Empire Strikes Brass).
 
Producers John Heintz and Frank Mapstone mixed and produced “Mantra” at Studio 606 (The Foo Fighters studio) on the old “Sound City” Neve console. Joe Gastwirt, who is well known for his work on several albums for Crosby Stills & NashTom Petty311 and The Grateful Dead, mastered “Mantra”. 

In 2007, Music Producer/Bassist John Heintz founded the musical ultra group THE BIG OL’ NASTY GETDOWNwhich was brought to life by Heintz alongside John Paul Miller and Derrick Johnson. Music Producer/Keyboardist Frank Mapstone joined Heintz early in the production of VOLUME 1 and the two have been a production team ever since. The Getdown is currently made up of an astounding +150 musicians from 90 of the hottest bands in the world.

Look for THE BIG OL’ NASTY GETDOWN’s VOLUME 2, as well as a 7″ vinyl featuring a track recorded with George Clinton and Motown legend Sidney Barnes to be released later this year.

About The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown

In 2007, Music Producer/Bassist John Heintz founded the musical ultra group THE BIG OL’ NASTY GETDOWN. Music Producer/Keyboardist Frank Mapstone joined Heintz early in the production of VOLUME 1 and the two have been a production team ever since. The Getdown is currently made up of an astounding 150 musicians from 90 of the hottest bands in the world.

VOLUME 1 was recorded in New Orleans and at George Clinton’s studio in Florida and features Clinton, as well as members of Parliament-Funkadelic GalacticBlackaliciousThe Dirty Dozen Brass BandTedeschi Trucks Band and many others.  The album would go on to be nominated for several awards, including the song “College Funk”, which won Funk & Groove Song of the Year at the 2011 HMMA Awards.

The Getdown is currently finishing VOLUME 2 and working on VOLUME 3 at Studio 606VOLUME 2 has an expected release date later this year.
