What a joy of a Time Capsule this show is. It speaks to the times in an historical, social, cultural and musical context. At a time when choreography videos (think Janet) ruled the day, along comes sophisticated Anita in her evening dress signing songs of longing and love. You both detailed that contrast in so many thought provoking ways. The fact that she was so different from everybody else makes the success of ‘Rapture’ even more remarkable. I agree with Ivan – ‘Sweet Love’ nearly drove me mad. You couldn’t get away from it. My favorite song is ‘Been So Long’ with her voice smooth as pure velvet. Anita Baker combines that irresistible mix – a sweet, beautiful face, pixie hairstyle and the utter surprise of a deep, sultry voice. It doesn’t get more seductive than that.
Not on this album but…I can’t leave out ‘Body and Soul’ …I absolutely love Anita’s video of this song.
Without question… One of the GREATEST R&B albums of all times!
