“My Lovin'” by En Vogue was the first single from the group’s second album Funky Divas. Written by (Denzil) Foster and (Thomas) McElroy, the song contains a guitar sample of James Brown’s “The Payback” that is looped throughout the song. “My Lovin” went to #1 on the Billboard R&B chart, but held at #2 on the Hot 100 chart. The stylish video–directed by Matthew Rolston, who directed several beautiful videos in the ’90s, won a MTV Video Music Award and inspired women all over to step up their game.
