This has been an enlightening personal journey over this past month to explore many facets of what term “Grown” actually means and how it applies to the music we know and love. I want to personally thank everyone here at GFM HQ for allowing me the freedom to explore this topic and I want everyone to be on the lookout for a follow-up where I tie all of the “What Grown Folks Do” posts together in a comprehensive way.

Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
