Part of the labor of love here at GFM. This is done all in love, because we are all lover’s of great(not necessarily popular) music here. While I believe that we should spend a certain amount of effort to “Save the Music” that initiative may need to undergo some rethinking/re-tooling into a top-down as opposed to bottom up approach. Why should we ever encourage a child to learn an instrument or to write music so that they can be mediocre at best? Our children and our society deserve much more than the mediocrity that has become par for the course.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
