The Rhythm
Somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind I believe that rhythm and in particular the sound of the drum kit was one of the first aspects of music that I was drawn to in music. Like a wonderful physical attribute of a beautiful woman, the beat appealed to my sense and my sense of curiosity. Done right, she’s steady, sensual, powerful and oh so ever attention grabbing.
Today I wanted to post a clip of one of my favorite drummers with a few friends that we all know of his and that’s none other than Steve Ferrone. What I love about Steve then and now is it’s all about the groove, all about that pocket.
I need to find a personal pocket on this journey.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
