Blitz The Ambassador SOB's

Blitz the Ambassador at the Knitting Factory

On Wednesday, I went to one of the last hip hop shows at New York's famed Knitting Factory (which if you don't know is shutting it's doors next month) and caught Blitz the Ambassador's set (also there were Amanda Diva and Che Grand).

Blitz, who hails from Ghana, is one of those performers I expect you'll be hearing a lot about in the future.  He's performed all over -- from Alaska to SOBs -- and he captivates any audience he goes in front of -- I've seen him 3 or 4 times now, and every time he's got great energy and an even better show.  His mantra is "good hip hop isn't on the radio" (complete with an illustration of a suit-wearing man with a stereo for a head shooting through the radio).

Blitz is a rare find in today's hip hop world, and I love what he's bringing to the table.  Great lyrics, awesome live shows (EVERY time -- such energy), and of course, he's an amazing emcee to top it all off.

Video footage after the jump.

Common Plans To Release The Believer As His Next Album After Universal Mind Control

Common
Common

Whatever you want the people to do, you create the music for them to do it,' Com says of releasing UMC first.

By Shaheem Reid

ATLANTA — You'd better believe it: Common still intends to make his long-talked-about Believer LP.

"The Believer is definitely gonna be an album," Com said Saturday before his performance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. "It's gonna be the next album. I was ready to make The Believer, then I started working on an EP called Invincible Summer. Then I was like, 'OK, "Universal Mind Control" — that's the name of the single.' Like we said on the song, 'If you wanna dance, let's dance.' That's what that whole concept is like: Whatever you want the people to do, you create the music for them to do it."

The Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind

The Foreign Exchange: Leave it all behind

The much anticipated new project from supa producer Nicolay & Phonte (best known from the breakout group Little Brother), together known as, The Foreign Exchange is now available digitally at iTunes, Amazon & Rhapsody.  2 CD Digipak available 10/14.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nicolay at Terry Bello's International Soul Music Summit held in Atlanta a few weeks ago, and his exact words to me were "you need to check us out, we make Grown Folks Music".  Now, I hear that from ALOT of artists, but few deliver.

Well, there is no doubt about it, this is GFM.  Excellent production, & arrangements, strong vocal performances (Phonte, Muhsinah and Yahzarah), who will be featured in upcoming posts, and raw emotional content.  The sampler was beautifully mixed and just wet the pallette for what was to come  -- innovative, real soul, real hip hop. Listen for yourself -- download the free sampler at their website .
