It’s probably too early to tell, but what does 2012 sound like? I mean 2012, not 2012 longing for 1972 or 1986 or 1998(not that there’s anything wrong with connecting with the music from those years) but right now. Now is really all we have if you think about it. It would be a shame to waste too much time. If 2012 sounds good to you let’s celebrate, if it doesn’t sound good how do we change that? Maybe we need a change of venue, or maybe the venue has already changed before our eyes and we’re playing catch up. Whatever it is that we want and need to hear and connect with we need to do it for the now so that there’s a possibility of a then and a better probability of what comes after now.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
