The very promising career of Jim Croce was cut short by a tragic plane crash September 20, 1973. After a decade of playing every type of gig imaginable and holding down an assortment of jobs, Jim’s career broke through nationally in 1972 with the release of two albums that year: You Don’t Mess Around With Jim and Life and Times. Our song today hit #1 in 1973 and has been a staple at radio, along with several other Jim Croce classics ever since.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
