There are some things that just fit, feel right and are around for a long time. There are other things that just last for a season or two. Sometimes that can be friends, romantic relationships, jobs, other endeavors and of course this applies to music as well. There is some music that I haven’t listened to in a long time and I put it on and it feels just right. There’s some music that I haven’t listened to in a long time and I put it on and I question why I ever liked it in the first place. The latter is a seasonal choice. Having seasonal choices I believe is a good thing because it shows growth.
So as we enter a new season of the year, are there any musical offerings that don’t fit you anymore? In your opinion is that a positive or negative revelation? How do you handle growing pains?
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
