While we’d seen white artists doing R&B music before, Color Me Badd was still a different look for a R&B group at the time not everyone accepted the group as “qualified”. Especially when you consider the group had some strong contemporaries like Boyz II Men and Jodeci. Nevertheless C.M.B., the debut album was a solid effort and “I Wanna Sex You Up” was a racy jam that went to #1 on the R&B chart. The song also appeared on the soundtrack for the motion picture New Jack City.
