So I wanted to post this track from Kelly Rowland just to gauge what folks feel really makes music “grown”. Is the subject matter? Is it the music? What truly makes music “Grown Folks Music”? I’m kind of torn on this cut in the sense that I hear what Kelly is saying loud clear(which I can appreciate) but it’s kind of hard for me to consider this music grown when I keep hearing Rihanna or Ciara or Keri Hilson or (insert “young” artist here) singing this track. Maybe my old fuddy duddiness is starting to show. What are your thoughts? How would you make this call: Grown or not? Hit us up in the comment section!

Yes it is very, very hard for me to consider anyone grown using that much auto-tune. I was just talking with a partner of mine about how most of the music in the “main” strives and actually prides itself on sounding the same. But I guess that’s what happens when everyone uses the same people to produce their recordings.
I have to pass on this song. As she is a grown ass woman, she shouldn’t be singing this song. They lyrics are truly meant for Teira Marie (sp), Rhianna, or Ciara…a truly young 20-something singer. As a singer in her late 20’s, she should be beyond lyrics such as these. Hope she selects a better song next time…

I’m so grown it’s silly!
Come on! the lyrics are trite. When people tell you how mature they are, you have to ask what are they trying to prove.
Ne-Yo certainly has a way with a radio hook, and it’s destined to be a hit, but I don’t know how grown that much auto-tune is.
Grown ass, my ass!
