That is one of the greatest opening lines that I’ve heard. That’s craftsmanship. To write and deliver a line like that takes time, you have to live it. It’s not some sing-songy repetitive goobly-goop that you get when you learn how to write songs by subscribing to the rss feed of www.writeasongintenseconds.com.
This is life music, from, in my honest opinion the best album in Anita Baker’s discography. For me, Compositions is the perfect storm of production, performance and songwriting and this song further reinforces that point for me.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
