Our song of the day is that perfect get you ready for the weekend type groove. The “Roller-Boogie” optimized tempo with heavy bass and pocket tight drums was a staple of the era right before someone(probably some know-it-all exec) said that it would be cool to just throw all the live musicians in Black Popular Music out of the studio except for the keyboard player and occasionally the guitarist or said funky bass. But that’s another post for another day. Today let’s get down with our Artist of the Month.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
