On their 4th album Under the Blue Moon , New Edition did a number of homage songs from the 1950’s. One of those songs was Earth Angel, originally released by the group, The Penguins, which was also featured in the 1986 movie, The Karate Kid II. Earth Angel, like many other songs from that era, carried a sound that was pretty similar in its formula. This was mainly due to the chord progressions, sometimes called Blue Moon chords, that were commonly used on songs like Duke of Earl, Blue Moon and Stand By Me.
