Produced by Robert Plant and Ahmet Ertegun. The story goes that while the sessions were going on for this recording, Harry Belafonte was in the building working on the soundtrack to “Beat Street”. Ahmet invited Harry down to check out what was going on and after some impromptu dancing, hugs and tears were shed about this music that was being recorded.
Talk about “Bridging the Gap”! Early Hip Hop and classic Rhythm and Blues all being recorded on the same day at the same place but musicians from various generations, countries, ethnic backgrounds etc., that’s the power of music.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
