The truth is that this band and this clip always makes me smile. In your face, unapologetic, rough and rugged as it wants to be, this is heavy. What I’ve loved about Mother’s Finest is they say what they have to say their way.
Shouldn’t we all live our lives with that type of freedom? When everyone else is rocking khakis from the Gap, you decide that it is apropos to come to the function at the junction with your best gabardines on because you want to. That’s the action of someone not looking for approval, but someone who has a strong enough constitution to be comfortable in making decisions based upon what makes them feel good without consideration of the external.
It takes a certain level of maturity to reach that point in life. Like the song says…
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
