Another library has closed its doors… but we are fortunate for the time that the library embodied in the personage of Gil Scott-Heron was here with us, open and offering words for our collective empowerment. Though now not with us in body, that word, those words, that spirit, remain for the interfacing… I believe that these jewels have been left here for us to not simply revel in the once was but to prepare ourselves for a better will be. Rest In Peace Progenitor of many movements, Smith of many important words and Keeper of consciousness.
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
