When I was a little kid I always equated Jazz with Christmas because of this song. The sound just represented to me at the time what I thought was Jazz. Sometimes now I will still hear a little bit of Christmas in some Jazz tunes.
The Christmas Song simply put is a classic. According to BMI it is their most performed Christmas song. Written by Mel Torme and Bob Wells during a sweltering heatwave in the Summer of 1944, it was first recorded by The Nat King Cole Trio in 1946 and subsequently by everyone else over the last 64 years. It will probably be recorded by everyone else for the next 64 years. Now that’s a classic.
