Description:
Denise Katrina Matthews AKA Vanity (January 4, 1959 – February 15, 2016)
A special mix to celebrate the musical legacy of Vanity, featuring songs by Vanity, Vanity 6, Prince, Madhouse, Eric Leeds, interspliced with dialogue from Vanity interviews.
As a 12 year old, my very first Prince tour was for 1999 on Dec. 19th 1982 at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. My Uncle Carl and Aunt Net took me to this concert after getting permission from my mother. (Thanks, mama, for granting me permission to go.) This is by far one of the best memories of my childhood. Vanity 6 was the opening act on that tour.
With the release of Vanity 6’s debut album, Vanity’s image and music has always been an integral part of my life and will continue to do so until the day I die. May she rest in peace!
