From the classic “Rapture” album. Rapture was short on length (9 tracks), but long on both substance and content. I love the retro, USO theme of the video. There’s even a cameo by the legendary director Spike Lee. “No One in the World” reached #44 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #5 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hip songs chart. The lyrical content of this track coupled with Ms. Baker’s delivery make for musical gold. You can feel her regret, not just via the lyrics, but via the way she sings of “….No one in the world can love me like you do baby, Every time I’m with someone I’m loving you, yes I want to run. I, want to run back to your arms again….Ain’t no one in the world”. When Ms. Baker sings, “You got the love that I need, ain’t nobody ’round here to love me….” you can just feel the longing for what once was. I agree with one poster on You Tube who said that this is the type of song that makes you wish for a time machine to travel back to the late ’80s or early ’90s.
Ms. Baker is both popular and active on Twitter. You can follow her here.
