The Christmas season is the “cover” season as far as music goes. Write a song that becomes a Christmas standard and you, your children and probably your grandchildren will always have a little something to look forward to in the stocking from your mechanical and performance royalty checks.
How could I resist posting this cover of this song first made famous by Bobby Helms in 1957 written by Joe Beal and Jim Boothe. I mean does it really get any better than Sister Sledge, Marilyn McCoo and The Solid Gold Dancers? Sometimes these are the questions we must ponder…
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
