Don’t you just love songs that the title encourages and inspires the desired reaction? Every single time I listen to this song I actually smile. The song has a great melodic line, not the predictable arc, but jagged, surprising notes that appear from seemingly nowhere. The form of the song reflects life in the sense that it is almost conversational: Not the tight linear A to B but more like A then a little detour then B but then maybe another detour etc., That’s like cooking up a great and spicy meal and you can best believe that would make me smile as well 🙂
Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
