The closing number from 1990’s Lalah Hathaway has our Artist of the Month displaying the funky side of her vocal repertoire. With vocal stacks reminiscent of another Chicago native: Chaka Khan, the track provides lots of space in the verse for the story to be laid out and builds up to a fiery multi-layered bridge. This tune is a great example of late 80’s/early 90’s electro funk.

Ivan Orr is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, performer, and writer. A native of Charlottesville, Virginia Ivan was involved with the forming and nascent days of The Music Resource Center as its first Program Director. A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Department of Music, Ivan currently resides in Richmond, VA where he maintains an active performance and production schedule while serving as the Music Editor for Grown Folks Music, a position he has held since 2010.
