I was originally going to post something else regarding Kim Burrell’s new video, Sweeter but I felt the need to address certain replies I witnessed on YouTube. While I saw a number of supportive comments for this video, there were also those who had a different opinion to the nature of this piece. Truthfully, I believe everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and I respect that. On the other hand, I sometimes run into a deep sense of disappointment when I see this seemingly small vision of what gospel should sound or look like. It’s as if we forgot this was the same mindset thrown at Kirk Franklin for being too “radical” or Bebe & Cece for not mentioning the name of Jesus in some of their songs, yet these artists have made an instrumental contribution to gospel music and the lives of many people “in and out” the church.
I personally enjoyed this piece and appreciated the turn off the beaten track of the “traditional” gospel video. Sweeter will make you long for the whispering sea and the peace it beckons. Director, Krishnar Lewis, expresses an intimate video which captures not only Kim’s beauty but an exotic and intoxicating landscape in South America. It inspires an intimacy that can stir the heart towards a “sweeter” and closer walk with God. Watch this video and be blessed!

I actually love this video! Pastor Kim looks great and healthy and she looks her age! The video is about getting up and each day being sweeter and sweeter. Who wake up in their clothes? I dont! Also she is allowed to have a man in her life. She allowed to speak about her relationship is sweeter and sweeter as the days go by! She can be talking about her God and her man too. I bet somebody will use this song in a wedding ceremony because it represents both of their loves!

What a SHAME!! Saints we are in trouble if we are still looking to these carnal beyonce wanna be’s to minister to us thru “Gospel” music. The visuals and the vocals sound like & look like she is singing about a man and not God. Who would be foolish enough to even try to classify this garbage as a tool to promote the “gospel” of Jesus Christ. Kim looks BAD & corrupt. SMH Folks have gone mad – those that are promoting & supporting this are lost, blind and have given themselves over to the influence of satan, period.
Thank you for your comments. I probably view the video and the project in a very different manner than you. The church as an institution has had a long history of rejection and then acceptance of ideals, concepts etc., At one point in the church’s history the organ was a forbidden instrument because it was thought to be demonic. I guess folks don’t regard that instrument as demonic anymore. In fact our entire system of harmony in Western Music is based on the tritone which at one point in history the… (you guessed it, the church) considered the tritone to be the devil’s interval and it was not to be played. Satan sure does get a lot of credit.
