Let’s imagine for a moment that the middle of the circle you see represents the socio-cultural construct known as “Blackness”. Also, imagine if you will that the outline of the shape represents the on-going never ending debate about what is and what isn’t “Black” or “Black Enough”. Thursday, December 23, 2010 (Los Angeles) – Award-winning and beloved gospel duo Mary Mary will deliver a special holiday performance alongside BeBe & CeCe Winans on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the show will air on NBC starting at 11:35/10:35c. In the spirit of the upcoming holiday and their special appearance, Mary Mary have also launched their “Tweet N’ Meet” Christmas Contest engaging fans to tune into The Tonight Show for a chance to receive an autographed Mary Mary Christmas CD and a personal telephone call from the ladies on Christmas day.
I think this is going to be one of those semi-confessional posts… every now and then I have to do one of those. This was truly inspired by the BBC documentary that we posted the other day about Michael’s influence. But really this post is not about Michael per se, but more about how we view music, success, what’s disposable and the never ending debate about whether or not you can be critical without being labeled a “hater”. Why would you sign up for Ping?? That’s the question that lots of Apple and iTunes users have been asking in addition to artists. Ping is Apple’s version of Facebook/Twitter that allows people to network on their iTunes platform. The idea seems lofty; people are heavily using the other sites currently. To add another network would be to build up your followers all over again. Apple however has the benefit of being the proprietor of the largest record store on the planet. Over a month ago we began our “Grow the Hell Up!” campaign. Now it’s time for part two of our three part series.
How the series works is first a manifesto of sorts is posted for each focus area, followed by a commentary on each point of the manifesto with not only rhetoric but some workable solutions. We would love for this process to be as interactive as possible so after the initial posting of each manifesto we would love to hear your feedback and incorporate your ideas into the commentary portion of the series.
