Hola my GFM fam!!!! It’s ya girl WestStyle Chronicles coming straight from the ATL and bringing you “in the know” of the latest music events. I recently had the pleasure of attending “ATL Live On the Park”, a monthly music showcase debuting live music and emerging R&B artists. Without question, the setting of the event was scenic with a contemporary flair. However when the artists hit the stage, it was a completely different story! Between the waving hands, the audience excitement and communion glasses of Conjure Cognac all over the place, I didn’t know if I was at a showcase or Sunday morning church! For a minute, I just knew either the collection plate was being passed or the call for salvation would soon be announced. Anyway, the night started with “Untitled”, a R&B male group newly signed to DTP Records. A special performance also included actor/singer Keith Robinson who you’ve definitely seen on movies like “This Christmas” and “Dreamgirls”. But the artist that drew you in was singer, songwriter, musician and producer Rudy Currence, the newest member of the DTP family. With an eclectic mixture in artistry, Currence could be soulful and sentimental in one moment, playful the next then bring you to the “old time tent revival” when it’s all over. Even special guest, Neyo had to congratulate the budding artist after his high energy performance. Other celebs in the house included RL, from the group, Next, Algebra, Anthony David, and DJ Drama just to name a few. Check out some of the pics from the event and be sure to look out for the video footage coming soon. And by the way, anytime you’re in the “A” and you want to indulge in a live music and R&B experience, be sure to check out “ATL Live On the Park”! (more…)

One of our favorite contributors, DJ Slam of You Know I Got Soul, recently spoke with R.L., formerly of the R&B group Next. Here, he talks about what he’s been up to, the industry, leaks and what it means to be a songwriter. Be sure to look out for his upcoming album — LoveMusic and follow him on Twitter for all the latest.
YouKnowIGotSoul: First off, let me start by saying you did a great job writing and singing for Ginuwine’s latest album, I really enjoyed “Orchestra” and “Open the Door.” How did this collaboration come about?
R.L.: I actually did about five songs on the album; I think its five records on there. I got a call from a producer who goes by the name of St. Nick, and he asked me if I wanted to get involved. Me and Ginuwine you know were cool for years since we did “The Best Man,” so I said “Of Course.” I went down and I ended up doing some stuff with St. Nick and they liked my work and asked me if I knew any other producers who would be good for the project. I brought in Oak, and we did some more records. There were actually a few more that I liked A LOT that didn’t go on the album, one went on the international version if I’m not mistaken. Over the years, we always said we need to get up and do something, and it’s a blessing for him to let me get in on the project, it was real nice.
