Mariah Carey is back. There are two things that we’re pretty sure will never happen. Pigs will never fly, and you will never see Mariah Carey looking less than perfect in her music videos. The song? Well, the message of the chorus is one of encouragement, but it’s lost in the music and seems after the fact due to the fact the Rick Ross and Meek Mill have the verses and Mariah has been reduced to the background and the hook like the song is theirs and not hers. Mariah Carey is a strong songwriter and it would have been nice to hear what she had to say about being triumphant and give the rappers fewer bars.
Check out the video for “Why?” by Mary J. Blige. Now those of us who aren’t so excited about some of today’s rappers could ask “Why?” Rick Ross is on this track, but then Mary J. Blige ain’t called the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul for nothing. She’s always represented the combination of Hip-Hop and R&B. She sang hooks for the rappers and they in turn dropped hot bars on her tracks, so ”Why?” is true to the MJB formula. Rick Ross may not blaze up the track the way that maybe Nas did back in the day, but this song is a classic MJB poem sung from the heart.
Check out the new video for “Think Like A Man” from Jennifer Hudson and Ne-Yo featuring Rick Ross from the movie Think Like A Man–due for release in theatres in April.
Listen to “Think Like A Man” by Jennifer Hudson featuring Ne-Yo and Rick Ross from the soundtrack to the upcoming movie Think Like A Man, due in theatres March 9.
Of course Tyrese had to give you a remix in response to his hit song “Stay”. Tyrese gets an assist from both Rick Ross and Faith Evans, but the addition of Faith alone would have still made for a good remix. I appreciate the fact that the remix is a full on remix- with a different melody, different tempo, and a few new lyrics added in. While the original “Stay” was for the bedroom, this one’s for the dance floor. Open Invitation is available at Amazon.com and ITunes.com.
I recently had a conversation with one of my friends concerning the laughable notion of Rick Ross being considered a sex symbol. Yes ladies, I know it’s hard to believe but if you hadn’t heard, Ross was plastered on the cover of Vibe’s sex issue a few months ago plus there’s been recent rumors of him having a sex tape. I pray to God this isn’t true because seeing him bare chested without his push up bra is not the “Free Willy” sequel I want to see. Now some women may find the concept of Ross sprawled in his nakedness to be sexy, my fantasies, on the other hand, have always required *ahem* more DEFinition, if you know what I mean. With that being said nothing fits that description more than Uncle L himself, LL Cool J. After accepting the I Am Hip Hop BET Hip Hop Award this past October, LL has a new single recently released on the TV drama, “NCIS: Los Angeles” entitled “No More” featuring Ne-Yo and produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love. Now forgive me in my delay because this was released earlier last month but take a listen and tell us what you think?
