New Video: Lenny Williams Reincarnates “Cause I Love You” With New Single, “Where Did Our Love Go”

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

What makes Lenny Williams such a memorable voice in R&B is his uncanny ability to invoke rich layers of emotion to his songs. From his current album, Still in the Game, Lenny has released my “favorite” single, Where Did Our Love Go.  This cut can be best described as the twin spirit of Cause I Love You. Like that 1978 hit, this song carries the essentials of a man grasping for strings and pleading for his woman to come back with his renowned “oh oh oh” ad-libs and “conversational” breakdown. While the circumstances of love loss may be different in both songs, the musical and emotional backdrop that Lenny soars in is completely at hand.

Check it out and let us know what you think.

New Music: Lenny Williams – “Grown Man”

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Now in no way would I consider myself a blues expert but in my journey of exploring music, I’ve really found it fascinating and enjoyable. While this genre can tell of heartbreak and trouble like no one can, it can also have some raunchiness too. However, what I enjoy most about that characteristic is the blend of comedic humor and interesting wordplay in some instances. Speaking of blues, take a listen to Lenny Williams’s latest single, Grown Man from his current album “Still in the Game”. The lyrics are playful, unapologetic and completely entertaining. When I hear it I think of down home barbecue from the smoker and a bit of whiskey on the side. Both will leave you tickled and feelin’ good.

New Music: Lenny Williams: “One This Day” featuring Kirk Whalum

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

I know you’ve been saying to yourself, “why do we have more stripper songs than wedding songs?” Well, Lenny Williams has come to remedy this situation along with Grammy award winning saxophonist, Kirk Whalum. Here is the second single, “On This Day” from Williams’ upcoming album, “Still in the Game”. It kind of reminds you of Freddie Jackson’s “You Are My Lady” with that 80′s drum beat, right? Let us know what you think?

Album Review: Lenny Williams – “Still in the Game”

Monday, July 9th, 2012

Lenny Williams’s newest project, “Still in the Game” is a collage of R&B, soul, blues and a touch of jazz that will probably appeal to a number of musical palettes. In first listening to the cuts, “Still” and “This is for the One That Got Away”, the songs bear a smooth groove and I favored the air of romantic sentiment that’s seemingly a lost art in today’s “R&B”, however they weren’t the songs that immediately pulled my attention. In digging deeper into singles like “Where Did Our Love Go”, “ Happy Man” and “Sunshine” each song carries a seasoning of nostalgic soul that praise Williams’s voice and flawless ability to execute songs that require a mature emotional range.  More specifically, “Where Did Our Love Go” is an incredible song that replicates a longing, fight and expressive drama that slightly nods at the classic, “Cause I Love You”.  Without question, this song is attractive due to its storyline and a testament of Williams’s long lasting charisma. While “Still in the Game” carries a certain tenderness, it also has a tone of fun and a bit of dirty blues.  With singles like “Grown Man” and “I’m Sorry I Didn’t Know It Was Your Mama” both songs are lyrically entertaining and flaunt an unapologetic attitude that will tickle you with a sly smile.

Overall, “Still in the Game” is a good album and hits the truest notes when aligned with its more soulful cuts. In these moments, Williams creates a tone that courts your emotions and transports you to a different place. For music lovers who crave vocalists who can convey an unmistakable mood with a distinguishable voice, you can’t go wrong with Lenny Williams’ newest album, “Still in the Game”.

New Video from Lenny Williams, “Still”

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Alright, everybody!!

We know you hadn’t added anything to that “slow drag” playlist lately. You ain’t feeling “Wacka” or a “Flocka” and don’t care what rapper is doing what “at the same damn time”. We hear you and feel you completely. So on that note, let’s help you out a bit. Lenny Williams has just released the video, Still, a song from his upcoming album, Still in the Game. Now you can add this to your playlist, but whatever happens afterward is on you. Our normal disclaimer still stands, “we believe in music support, not child support”. Don’t blame us if you end up with little junior from this song.

Listening to an interview with Deion Sanders a few days ago, he made the funny remark that people don’t “slow drag” no more.  So for those who share the same sentiment, we got some new funk for ya! Hot out the oven we have the NEW single “Still” taken from Lenny Williams’ upcoming album, Still in the Game.
