I had to stop after those two lines to write this. But seriously, what I’m ranting about today is the ever present (especially as it relates to music) “I’m about to do this or that” that you cannot escape from on any social network whether it is a “celebrity” or someone who aspires to be. I have certainly been guilty of using that phrase, I still probably use it from time to time but my problem is the incessant “I’m about to-ers”. You know the folks that out of the 24hours in each day that we’ve been allotted 18 of those hours they are on Twitter or Facebook talking about what they are going to do musically. Oh they are out there… some successful and some not so, some talented and some not so. (more…)

Part of this year’s International Soul Summit, was a partnership with the Peachtree International Film Festival for a weekend of great panels, music, networking and film screenings. More on this in an upcoming post. One of the screenings I attended was DJ Nab’s Diary of A Mad DJ. This documentary could be best described as a Hard Knocks (NFL reference) for real DJ’s.

For those not familiar, Nabs is a real DJ in every sense of the word. His passion, dedication, skills, knowledge and respect for the art and the culture is on par with the greats. The story chronicles his rise from part time mix show DJ, to touring the world with some of the greatest (Michael Jackson included) as well as the pitfalls in between. For hip hop fans, artists, DJ’s (celebrity dj’s need not apply) and dreamers, it’s an important story that needs to be told.
