From music mogul to social media entrepreneur, Jermaine Dupri has designed and developed , Global14.com,  an online community where ”real networking” and dialogue takes place. With over 500 discussion groups featuring topics ranging from dating to education, music and sex, the site has earned nearly 20,000 subscribers and averages about 100,000 unique visitors per month. With Kenny “Touch Yourself” Burns as the master of ceremonies and  almost losing my drink when DJ Salah Ananse played The Screams of Passion by The Family on the one’s & two’s, celebrity guests like Joi, Jermaine Dupri, Bryce Wilson and many more all came to celebrate the long awaited book release of  The Hip Hop Professional from music industry veteran, Shanti Das. Blogworld Expo 2009 took place last week in Las Vegas and Jermaine Dupri was a guest panelist. It’s great to see someone in his position getting involved at a grassroots level of what’s next in technology and the industry.

If you’ve followed JD at all, you know he’s been very active in blogging and vlogging through his Living the Life series.

I don’t have a lot of faith in the industry actually innovating or getting on board with what’s next in technology, but I am encouraged by Jermaine’s efforts to learn and grow as an exec, producer and businessman.

Keep an eye on this one…. it will be interesting to watch the evolution of the honorary chairman of the “sexy geek club” and his team. Follow Jermaine on Twitter.

AllHipHop.com is reporting that Jermaine Dupri has been dropped from his position as head of the Island Def Jam Urban Division, a post he’s been in since February of last year.  While it’s unknown about the specifics of his termination (though an official announcement is expected soon), the hip hop industry had taken a big hit this past year despite the huge successes of artists like T.I. and Lil Wayne.  What’s more interesting, though, is what this means for Dupri’s Tag Records, the partnership announced last year between Island Def Jam and the men’s deodorant line.
