Song of the Day: Gerald Levert: “Answering Service”

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

What’s so cool about this song is it draws the listener in with all of dramatic strings of a classic ’70s slow jam; similar to ones The O’Jays put out, but then it moves on to the bass-heavy groove that was common in ’90s slow jams. But, the best part is a remorseful Gerald wearing his heart on his sleeve and putting it all out there on “Angela’s” answering service.  “Answering Service” by Gerald Levert from his sophomore solo album Groove On.

Song of the Day: Gerald Levert “I’d Give Anything”

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

“I’d Give Anything” is a classic love ballad. It’s a song that immediately makes you miss the well crafted music of the ’90s. You can easily hear the lush production influence of David Foster. The track is befitting, as many people are constantly trying to determine if there is a such thing as a soul mate, and if there is they are trying to determine who their soul mate is. “I’d Give Anything” was a major hit, reaching #4 on the R&B/Hip Hop Charts and reaching #28 on the Hot 100. The track is available in mp3 format as part of the “Groove On” album at Amazon.com.

Did you know that this hit is actually a remake of the song “She’d Give Anything” by the country group Boy Howdy? Check out the original below.
