Adam Yauch

DJ Polished Solid takes time out this week to remember and remind us of the incredible musical and humanitarian legacy of Adam Yauch, MCA of Beastie Boys fame. Although no longer with us after losing his battle with cancer we can rest assured that his spirit will live on through the music and people he touched while here. Many thanks to DJ Polished Solid for putting this wonderful tribute together. Make sure to checkout DJ Polished each and every Sunday from 4pm to 6pm on her show No Turn Unstoned right here.

GFM 12 Play to Christmas: The Nat King Cole Trio – The Christmas Song

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

When I was a little kid I always equated Jazz with Christmas because of this song. The sound just represented to me at the time what I thought was Jazz. Sometimes now I will still hear a little bit of Christmas in some Jazz tunes.

The Christmas Song simply put is a classic. According to BMI it is their most performed Christmas song. Written by Mel Torme and Bob Wells during a sweltering heatwave in the Summer of 1944, it was first recorded by The Nat King Cole Trio in 1946 and subsequently by everyone else over the last 64 years. It will probably be recorded by everyone else for the next 64 years. Now that’s a classic.
