Well, well, well what do we have here? There is nothing like having the writer and producer of great song with the performer who made the song famous on stage at the same time having fun making music. This is what it is all about ladies and gents. From Lalah’s 1990 debut produced by the great Angela Winbush, real R&B/Soul music.

If I could I would take every aspiring R&B/Soul singer, songwriter and musician and give them a steady diet of this and other nutritious musical meals. Even though musical fast food is convenient, cheap and plentiful it’s not necessarily the best thing for you. Sometimes you have to slow down and get a home cooked meal. Thank you ladies for serving this music up so well.

Built on top of the classic drum intro from “Hihache” by Lafayette Afro Rock Band, this mid-tempo production which featured Chuckii Booker handling the production duties, stayed in constant rotation for me in early ’94.

The appeal? An infectious groove, multi-layered background vocals which make extensive use of doubling in octaves, a synth line that is an attention grabber in the intro and equally important throughout the production, tasty guitar and of course Ms. Angela herself in all her multi-register goodness.

Angela Winbush always puts on a clinic with her singing because she reminds that there are a whole lot of notes in the upper register that can be utilized but the only way to get to them and still be able to sing for decades is through proper technique.

Another GFM favorite, still looking and sounding incredible. According to the source, this was Angela performing live at Arie Crowne Theatre, 2-15-08. The former #1 smash “Angel“, is taken from her 1987 solo album, Sharp (Mercury).
