New Music-Kelly Price ft. Stokely “Not My Daddy”
What’s that I hear??? Real R&B music? I’ve been throwing subtle hints over the last two years that I have been writing here at GFM that the music, this music was on its way back. Of course we all know that great music, great musicianship and great writing didn’t really go away but with so much garbage masquerading as R&B it is very easy to fall prey to the Jedi-Mind tricks.
These mind games are a product of the economic perception of what sells and what doesn’t. The blame doesn’t fall just at the feet of the corporate-run conglomerations… but, it is a function of numerous artists trying to remain relevant by playing into the illusion of what’s hot as well as fans making excuses, settling for vapid lyrical content over last year’s throw away Will.i.am beat. Yeah I said it, I meant it and you can quote me.
This feels good… strike that . This feels great. When I hear music like this I get excited again about guess what? Music. This is at that standard, you know true and real craftsmanship. Kids, this is what it sounds like when professionals go into a recording studio and record. If you cannot do this, save your output until you are ready to compete at this level, because this your competition. This raises the game for everyone. If you are not ready to elevate your sound to this level send those email links of your tunes to your immediate family until you are.
This right here is Grown Folks Music!!!
Here is the interview I had the pleasure to conduct with Kelly Price back in August on 2010. She was incredibly gracious and inspiration because of her commitment to music and true artistry.

Sonya, thank you so much!!! I usually hold back somewhat but this song just hit me and that old feeling came back that I haven’t had in a while. You know like that old friend coming by and you pickup on your last conversation.

This dissertation is the perfect description of what’s been going on in the industry. I have REFUSED to buy music until something of substance came out and blew me away, or even had a modicum of talent without having to resort to being a pretty little twig to sell albums. Rhianna to me is a talentless flake that needs to be abolished, I am tired of the industry classifying her as R&B, she is NOT! She is bubble gum pop that’s been massaged by Will.I.Am’s sorry beats, not buying it! We NEED artists like these to come back and take it back…PLEASE!!!

It has a very Mint Condition vibe to it which of course means I love it!

FreddyB said “Rhianna….is a talentless flake that needs to be abolished” LMAO!!! Where can I sign that petition!! LOL!!! Matter of fact, we need to get a few others on that list!! LOL!!!

Thank you FreddyB your thoughts and words really capture the tenor of what so many of us who have this musical kindred spirit have been feeling and doing. We really do need artists like this to take that mantle back.
OneChele I as well am a big fan of the sound of Mint… they are masters at what they do.

@ FreedyB you better say it!!!! @ OneChele I’m with you – where is the petition cause I want to sign it too AND add some more waste of space non-talent folks onto that list like:
1. Trey Songz
2. Rhianna
3. Jeremiah
4. Nicki Minaj (stick to rapping chick!)
5. Drake (refer to #4)
6. Anyone else who jumped on the autotune bandwagon within the last 4 years!!!
