The latest project, Surreal, is one for your “Maximum chill-out kit”, so the fact that this album was released this spring just in time for the summer is a plus. Newer members Natalie Williams, Vanessa Haynes, and Mo Brandis are featured on lead vocals on Surreal (check out Mo Brandis on “Goodbye To Yesterday”, the first single from the album in the video below), but no need for the long-time Incognito to worry– Maysa is also featured on Surreal and does her thing. DJ Polished Solid takes time out this week to remember the voice and music of the legendary LaDonna Adrian Gaines (1948-2012). To say that Donna Summer was the voice of decade would definitely be an understatement. Her sound was one of beauty, technique and passion. She will be sorely missed. Grown Folks Music had the opportunity to attend a listening party hosted by Moods Music for artist and producer Mark de Clive Lowe. The event was hosted by Atlanta’s own DJ Kemit. If this is your first time hearing of Mark, he is originally from New Zealand. Mark credits his father with nurturing his love of music. Interestingly, one of his first and biggest musical influences was hearing Guy’s debut album in 1989 or 1990. Mark is known for his remixes such as his take on Shirley Horn’s “Return to Paradise”.
When asked about the current music industry, Mark believes that some of the new music lacks substance because a lot of the new music does not honor the past. Mark also notes the importance of not being motivated by money when an artist is making music. Mark currently resides in Los Angeles.
