Heavy D & The Boyz: “We Got Our Own Thang”

Hi-top fades, polka dots, shorts with socks, video girls fully clothed, and Heavy D and The Boyz dancin’ up a storm to that New Jack Swing beat equals ’80s feel-good perfection. “We Got Our Own Thang” went to #3 on the rap chart and #10 on the R&B chart. “We Got Our Own Thang”, from the platinum album Big Tyme.

Heavy D Doc to Feature' Mary J, Will Smith & More

Despite the sudden loss of Heavy D, his surrounding community will honor him in style and love.

His legacy lives on in the documentary, Be Inspired: The Life of Heavy D, which premieres on the Centric channel on Sunday (February 26) at 11:00 PM EST. The hour-long informative celebration will feature interviews from many he affected in the industry including: Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, Will Smith, Brett Ratner, MC Lyte and others, according to marketwatch.com.

Besides including his final show on October 11, 2011, at the BET Hip Hop Awards, the documentary will be supplemented with classic artists and friends like Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, and Kurtis Blow.

Heavy D died November 8th of last year from a pulmonary embolism.

Somali-bred, Canada-based emcee K’NAAN and New York’s NAS unleash the visuals for “Nothing to Lose.” According to the press release, the video was shot in Toronto’s West End, in and around K’NAAN’s old neighborhoods of Dixon Towers and Jamestown. Basically, it’s the grittier side of Toronto that Drake only hints at. K’NAAN’s latest EP More Beautiful Than Silence is out now.
